This is a stunning large Antique Art Nouveau Bronze Figurine / Lamp 'Sapho' Signed Emmanuel Villanis c1890.

A large and impressive Art Nouveau bronze sculpture by Emmanuel Villanis, depicting the ancient Greek poetess Sapho in a moment of lyrical expression, poised with her lyre. She is elegantly draped in a loosely fitted garment that cascades to her feet, embodying the flowing lines and sensuality characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. The piece is titled ‘Sapho’ and signed ‘E. Villanis’ on the bronze, numbered, and bears the foundry stamp Societes des Bronze De Paris.

The Société des Bronzes de Paris was a foundry active in Paris between 1875 and 1930. It specialized in the manufacture of bronze objects, notably for many renowned sculptors of the time.
The foundry was located at 41 Boulevard du Temple and 14 Rue Béranger, with production workshops at 117 Boulevard Voltaire. Among the artists it worked for were the Moreau brothers, Georges Van der Straeten, and Emmanuel Villanis.
The company was known for its expertise in bronze casting, chiseling, and patination, ensuring high-quality works of art. An example of its work is the patinated bronze bust of the Virgin Mary, entitled "Roma," dating from the late 19th century.

The bronze measures an impressive 94cm tall. To the top of the light fitting 108cm. Very heavy.

In exceptional condition.
